I Failed My First Clinical—and I’m Still Becoming a Great Nurse

Introduction:
I walked out of that hospital and cried in the parking lot. I had failed my clinical eval. I was humiliated. But today, I look back and realize that was the moment I truly started becoming a nurse.

1. Why Failure Feels So Personal

  • Nursing students hold themselves to high standards

  • Fear of not being “good enough” for the profession

  • Clinical instructors can feel intimidating

2. What I Learned From That Low Moment

  • Failure doesn’t disqualify you

  • Feedback is a tool, not a judgment

  • Asking for help is strength, not weakness

3. How I Turned It Around

  • Met with my professor, owned my mistakes

  • Practiced with friends and mentors

  • Prayed every morning before each shift

Faith Reflection:
God doesn’t use perfect people—He uses willing ones. When we feel weak, His strength is made perfect (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Conclusion:
To the student nurse doubting themselves right now: keep going. One failed eval doesn’t define you. Your calling is greater than your GPA.
